How to choose your Korean serum & ampoule?

A Korean serum is first chosen according to its objective: spot correction (vitamin C, niacinamide), skin barrier repair (ceramides, snail mucin), or firming (ginseng, fermented retinol). The concentration of active ingredients and the texture, light or more occlusive, then guide the choice depending on the routine step and the season.

A good serum doesn't tingle, doesn't pull, and absorbs in less than a minute. If your skin reddens or heats up after application, it's either an active ingredient that's too concentrated for your current tolerance, or a product that's unsuitable for your skin type. A well-chosen serum shows the first signs of results in 2 to 4 weeks.

Your skin profile influences the choice as much as the objective. The free skin diagnosis identifies the Korean serum adapted to your exact situation in 2 minutes, without guesswork.

Holy Skin's Advice

Cédric, co-founder of Holy Skin, has been using Korean serums for 3 years. Here's his direct feedback on the most common mistake in this category:

"Most people overload their routine with 2 or 3 different Korean serums, thinking it will accelerate results. In reality, you just risk irritating your skin or neutralizing the active ingredients. A single well-targeted serum, morning or evening depending on its formula, is always more effective than three poorly combined ones."

The basic rule in K-Beauty: one serum = one objective. If you want to treat spots in the morning and deeply hydrate in the evening, use two distinct serums at two separate times, not immediately layered.

When do you see results from a Korean serum?

The results of a Korean anti-spot serum (vitamin C, niacinamide) appear in 4 to 8 weeks for a visible effect on the complexion, and up to 12 weeks for established spots. Moisturizing or repairing serums (snail mucin, ginseng) show an effect on radiance and bounce in 2 to 3 weeks.

Consistency is key. A serum applied 5 times a week gives better results than a more concentrated product used inconsistently. Daily sun protection is essential to avoid counteracting the action of anti-spot active ingredients: without SPF, melanin will reform as quickly as it has been corrected.

Is Korean serum suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes, provided you choose the right active ingredients. Sensitive skin tolerates serums based on centella asiatica, propolis, snail mucin, and low-concentration niacinamide (2-5%) well. These active ingredients soothe, repair the barrier, and hydrate without aggressing.

Active ingredients to avoid on sensitive skin during first introduction: high-concentration purified vitamin C (above 10%), unencapsulated retinol, and AHAs with an acidic pH. If you have reactive skin, always start with an evening application only and observe for 48 hours before reapplying. In case of persistent redness or burning, stop and consult a dermatologist.
