Korean Routine

The Korean routine is a multi-step facial care method, usually 4 to 10 steps, based on layering formulas of increasing lightness. Each layer prepares the skin to better absorb the next. The standard order is: cleanser, toner, essence, serum, cream, sunscreen in the morning.

What distinguishes K-Beauty from classic Western routines is the priority given to deep hydration and prevention rather than aggressive correction. Korean active ingredients such as centella asiatica, snail mucin, or niacinamide work on the skin barrier without damaging it. The concrete result: skin that is more tolerant to treatments in the long term.

An effective Korean routine doesn't need 10 steps. 4 to 5 products are sufficient for the vast majority of profiles: double cleansing in the evening, a toner or essence, a targeted serum, and sun protection in the morning. The 10-step routine corresponds to an intensive skincare philosophy, not a daily standard.

Adding steps without precise targeting does not multiply results. Each additional product must address an identified problem.

The order of application always goes from thinnest to thickest in terms of texture. In the morning: cleanser, toner, essence, serum, light cream, SPF 50+ sunscreen. In the evening: cleansing oil, foaming cleanser, toner, essence, serum or ampoule, night cream or mask.

A simple rule: if you're not sure of the order between two products, apply the one with the thinner texture first. This logic applies to 99% of combinations. The only exception concerns chemical sunscreens, which need to be applied directly to clean skin before day cream.

Visible effects depend on the active ingredients used. Hydration improves after the first few applications. Skin radiance is generally noticeable within 2 to 3 weeks with a propolis or centella-based essence. Spots and imperfections require 4 to 8 weeks of regularly applied niacinamide or vitamin C.

There is no Korean routine that transforms the skin in one week. Lasting results require consistency over at least one full skin cycle, which is 28 days. Changing products before this time makes evaluation impossible and prevents any real progress.

K-Beauty is generally better tolerated by sensitive skin than many Western routines because it avoids formulas laden with fragrance, denatured alcohol, and occlusive film-forming agents. Brands SKIN1004, isntree, and Haruharu Wonder are particularly recognized for their minimalist, irritant-free formulas.

Certain active ingredients should still be introduced gradually even on sensitive skin: 2% BHA exfoliants, retinol, and high-concentration vitamin C.
