How to choose your Korean cleansing oil?

Three criteria guide the choice of a Korean cleansing oil: texture (light dry oil, classic oil, balm-to-oil), formula profile (non-comedogenic or not, enriched with soothing or sebum-regulating active ingredients), and compatibility with the makeup worn (waterproof or not). A cleansing oil rinses off with water and must emulsify without leaving a greasy film.

The sign of a well-suited oil is simple: after rinsing, the skin feels clean without tightness or a persistent greasy sensation. If an oily residue remains after rinsing, the formula does not emulsify correctly on your skin type. If the skin feels tight, the formula is too degreasing. A period of 2 to 4 weeks of daily use is sufficient to evaluate real tolerance, especially for acne-prone skin which fears the comedogenic effect.

Your exact profile determines the choice of formula. The free skin diagnosis identifies in 2 minutes the Korean cleansing oil adapted to your skin, without blind testing.

Holy Skin Tips

What our customers most often underestimate with cleansing oil is the application technique, not the product itself.

"The majority of people who tell me that cleansing oil clogs their pores apply it to wet skin. This is the classic mistake: a Korean cleansing oil must be applied to dry skin, massaged for 30 to 60 seconds, then water is added to emulsify before rinsing. Without this emulsification step, the oil doesn't really go away."

This step changes everything: emulsification transforms the oil into a milky lotion that carries impurities away with it when rinsed. Applied to wet skin, the oil does not mix properly with impurities and leaves a film. Should you use a cleansing oil every day?

Oil cleansing is recommended in the evening only, not in the morning. In the evening, the skin accumulates SPF, pollution, makeup, and oxidized sebum from the morning: this is where cleansing oil is essential. In the morning, a simple gentle water-based cleanser is sufficient as the skin has only accumulated nocturnal sebum.

One exception: if you don't wear makeup or mineral SPF during the day, a water-based cleanser alone in the evening may suffice. But as soon as you apply chemical sunscreen or long-wear foundation, cleansing oil in the evening is non-negotiable for truly clean skin without over-stripping.

Can one use a Korean cleansing oil during pregnancy?

Most Korean cleansing oils are pregnancy-friendly because they are rinsed off and not intended to penetrate the skin. Checking the INCI list is still essential: some formulas contain tea tree or rosemary essential oil, which are not recommended in early pregnancy, or retinol, which is strictly contraindicated.

Formulas based on Centella Asiatica, heartleaf, or ginseng are generally considered safe, but consult your doctor or midwife to validate your complete routine. This advice applies to all skincare products during pregnancy, not just cleansing oils.

What's the difference between a Korean cleansing oil and a cleansing balm?

Both belong to the same family of oil-soluble cleansers, and work on the same principle of dissolving oily impurities. The difference is the texture upon application: oil is liquid and applied directly, while balm is solid or semi-solid and melts upon contact with skin's warmth before behaving like an oil.

Balm generally offers slightly superior makeup removal power for intense waterproof makeup, as its more concentrated texture better envelops resistant pigments. Oil is more practical for daily use, especially for oily skin types who appreciate lighter textures. Both emulsify with water and rinse off in the same way.
