How to choose your blackhead product?

Is BHA skincare suitable for all skin types with blackheads?

BHA skincare works on most blackhead-prone skin types, but the frequency of application varies. Oily skin generally tolerates daily or twice-daily use. Combination skin benefits more from evening-only application, 2 to 3 times a week, to avoid compensatory dehydration that would worsen sebum production.

Dry or sensitive skin with blackheads in certain areas (nose, chin) should opt for low-concentration formulas (0.5 to 1% salicylic acid) or enzymatic exfoliants that do not acidify the hydrolipidic film.

How to combine an exfoliant and a serum in an anti-blackhead routine?

The layering order is key: active cleanser (BHA) is applied first, then niacinamide or propolis serum helps regulate residual sebum and tighten the appearance of pores. Do not layer two exfoliants in the same routine: for example, an AHA toner and a BHA cleanser on the same evening on unaccustomed skin.

Introducing active ingredients one at a time, with a week's interval, allows you to identify your skin's actual tolerance and avoid irritation reactions often confused with a purging reaction.

How long does it take to see results on enlarged pores?

Results on enlarged pores are gradual and depend on regularity. An improvement in texture and a visible reduction in obstruction are generally observed between 4 and 8 weeks of continuous use. The reduction in the enlarged appearance of pores, which is structural and not just related to obstruction, takes 2 to 3 months, and is often accompanied by work on daily sun protection, as sagging is aggravated by UV rays.

What is the best Korean product for blackheads?

Among Korean products for blackheads, three references stand out for their proven efficacy. The COSRX - Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser combines 1% salicylic acid with a gentle base suitable for daily use, unclogging pores without disrupting the skin barrier, ideal for combination to oily skin. The Beauty of Joseon - Glow Serum: Propolis + Niacinamide acts preventatively on oxidized sebum that forms comedones, while unifying skin tone. The Beauty of Joseon - Apricot Blossom Peeling Gel completes the routine with a gentle mechano-enzymatic exfoliation, particularly effective on nose pores.

The COSRX Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser is the most versatile entry point in the selection. Salicylic acid is oil-soluble: it penetrates the follicle and dissolves excess sebum at the source, where cleansers without active ingredients only clean the surface. Observable texture improvements can be seen in 3 to 4 weeks of regular use, only at night for reactive skin. If you want personalized advice on the format suitable for your skin, the free skin diagnostic guides you in less than 2 minutes.

The Best Korean Brands for Blackheads and Enlarged Pores

K-Beauty has several brands specializing in skin with visible pores, with distinct approaches. COSRXis the undisputed leader in active ingredients: their BHA and AHA formulas are dosed to produce a real effect without irritation. Beauty of Joseontakes a more hybrid approach, combining modern active ingredients like niacinamide with traditional Korean botanical ingredients — their serums are suitable for sensitive skin that still seeks effectiveness. Anuafocuses on maximum gentleness, with exfoliating toners with low concentrations of acids suitable for chemical beginners. Some By Mioffers 30-day protocols designed for acne-prone skin and recurring blackheads, with a multi-active approach (AHA + BHA + PHA combined).

Holy Skin's tips for making the right choice

Noa, co-founder of Holy Skin, shares the most common mistake observed on this topic:

"What we often see are skin types that use three exfoliants because they think the more active, the more effective. The result: irritation, a damaged barrier, and blackheads return even faster. A good BHA used regularly does more than an overloaded routine used occasionally."

Consistency trumps intensity. A BHA cleanser in the evening, a regulating serum, a light non-comedogenic moisturizer: this simple architecture produces stable results for oily and combination skin. Frequently Asked Questions about Blackheads and Enlarged Pores

      checkbox

What is the best Korean product for blackheads?

The COSRX Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanseris the recommended starting point for most skin types. Its 1% salicylic aciddissolves oxidized sebum deep within the pores without stripping the skin. For skin types that desire more targeted action after cleansing, the COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid effectively complements the routine by targeting the most stubborn blackheads, especially on the nose and chin.

Results in skin texture and apparent pore size are noticeable after 3 to 4 weeksof regular evening use.

      checkbox

Is salicylic acid effective against blackheads?

Yes. Salicylic acid is the go-to active ingredient for blackheads because it is liposoluble: unlike water-soluble AHAs, it can penetrate the sebaceous follicle and unclog pores from within. Korean formulations often use 0.5 to 2%, an effective concentration that doesn't cause excessive irritation on unaccustomed skin.

Introduce gradually, only at night at the beginning of your routine, with sun protection in the morning, as salicylic acid slightly sensitizes the skin to UV.

      checkbox

Are Korean blackhead treatments suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes, provided you choose the right concentrations and formats. Sensitive skin types should opt for enzymatic exfoliants (like peeling gels) or low-BHA toners (0.5%) rather than concentrated serums. Brands like Anua and Beauty of Joseon formulate specifically for reactive skin, with soothing bases that offset the potential irritating effects of active ingredients.

The warning sign to watch for: skin that feels tight, stretched, or reddens after application. In this case, reduce the frequency before increasing the concentration.

      checkbox

Can a blackhead treatment be used morning and night?

For most active skincare products (BHAs, exfoliants), the recommendation is evening only, especially at the start of a routine and for unaccustomed skin. In the morning, a gentle cleanser without active ingredients and a mineral or chemical sunscreen are sufficient and protect skin that has been weakened by nighttime exfoliation.

Some light BHA toners, such as those from Anua, can be used morning and evening on accustomed oily skin, but this frequency is rarely necessary to achieve results on blackheads.

      checkbox

      Are Korean pore strips effective?

Hydrocolloid patches work on surface open comedones: they mechanically extract the pore's contents through absorption. Their effectiveness is immediate but superficial; they do not address the root cause, which is sebum overproduction and deep follicular obstruction.

Used in conjunction with a regular BHA routine, they accelerate targeted cleansing on specific areas (nose, chin). On their own, they are not enough to sustainably reduce blackheads or the appearance of enlarged pores.
