FAQ: Korean Serum & Ampoule

How to apply a facial serum?

For your facial serum to be most effective, apply it to clean, slightly damp skin , just after cleansing (and possibly a toner or essence ). Take 2 to 3 drops in the palm of your hand, warm them between your fingers, then gently pat onto your face and neck, without rubbing.

This applies to all types of serums: hydrating facial serums with hyaluronic acid, anti-blemish serums with niacinamide, or even bakuchiol serums to soothe and smooth without irritation. Remember to let the serum absorb for 30 to 60 seconds before applying your cream.

Can you put 2 serums on your face?

Yes, you can definitely layer two serums if your skin has multiple needs! This is actually a common practice in Korean routines. This is called “layering,” as long as you follow a few simple rules:

  1. Apply the thinnest one first (e.g. hyaluronic acid serum), followed by the thickest one (e.g. retinol serum or anti-aging serum).
  2. Do not mix two powerful actives if you are a beginner (e.g. retinol + vitamin C may be too strong).
  3. Listen to your skin: If there are signs of discomfort or tightness, reduce to just one serum.

A good duo, for example, can combine a hydrating facial serum in the morning and an anti-blemish serum in the evening.

When to apply a facial serum?

Facial serum is generally used morning and/or evening, after cleansing and before moisturizer . Ideally, you should adapt the application according to the type of serum:

  • Hyaluronic acid serum is very good to apply morning and evening, as it deeply hydrates.
  • Retinol serum is best used in the evening because it makes the skin more sensitive to the sun.
  • The anti-blemish serum or radiance serum can be applied in the morning, always followed by an SPF cream.
  • Anti-aging serum is often used in the evening, to maximize nighttime cell regeneration.

💡 Holy Skin Tip: In the morning, focus on radiance and protection. In the evening, focus on restorative care.

What is the best anti-aging serum?

The “best” anti-aging serum really depends on your needs and skin type, but if we had to choose just a few tried and tested Korean gems… here are our top 4 treatments that smooth, firm and brighten the skin without damaging it 👇

1. Beauty of Joseon – Revive Serum: Ginseng + Snail Mucin

A must-have for tired or marked skin. This serum combines revitalizing ginseng with regenerating snail mucin for firmer, plumper, and visibly younger-looking skin. Lightweight, quickly absorbed, and a natural glow upon waking.

👉 Ideal for those who want a lifted effect without a greasy effect.

2. Some By Mi – Retinol Intense Reactivating Serum

A powerful yet well-tolerated retinol serum, even for sensitive skin thanks to its balanced formula. It stimulates collagen production, refines skin texture, and effectively combats wrinkles and dark spots.

👉 Perfect to incorporate in the evening into your anti-aging routine.

3. Medicube – Triple Collagen Serum

A real shot of collagen in a bottle to deeply firm, hydrate, and smooth. It contains three types of collagen to target different layers of the skin. The result? More elastic, denser skin, and a feeling of tone from the first few weeks.

👉 Recommended for skin that has lost firmness or is dehydrated.

4. Missha – Time Revolution Night Repair Ampoule 5X

A true K-beauty icon, this facial ampoule doubles as an ultra-regenerating night serum. Rich in fermented probiotics, it boosts radiance, smooths wrinkles, and strengthens the skin barrier while you sleep.

👉 The ideal ally for stressed or mature skin.

Should I apply a cream after a serum?

Yes, absolutely! Skincare serums treat, but creams seal . After applying a serum (whether it's moisturizing , anti-blemish , or anti-blemish ), it's essential to apply a moisturizer suited to your skin to maintain the benefits of the treatment and strengthen the skin barrier.

Without this step, the serum risks partially evaporating, especially if it contains hyaluronic acid , which captures water in the skin. The result: less plumping effect and less effective treatment in the long term.

👉 In summary: serum + cream = winning duo for nourished, treated and protected skin.
